Malayalam Movie Kayam Review

Movie Name :Kayam
Director :- Anil
Producer :- Haridas Subhash
Lyrics,Script:- Viju Ramachandran
Cast:- Manoj K.Jayan, Bala, Aparna Nair, Sweta Menon, Kottayam Nazeer, Anil Murali, Subair, Asokan, Aniyappan, Seema G. Nair

Director Anil has created a film which brings audience to a rustic small village were development hasn’t shown its face. The feel is similar to an island, where the wind blew always and surrounded by forest and deep waters, a place far away from anywhere.
Kayam is the story of a woman, Thamara who lost everything in her life and is on her quest for love. Her beauty is her bane. She represents the ordinary woman who asks at a point ‘does she suffer because she is a woman?’ The best part in the film is post interval. Audience catches a flavor of Bharathan films at many points. Scenes taken in water have a special sensation. Audience would sink into the atmosphere created in the movie. The kabadi tournament is something novel to Malayalees.
Acting performances are exceptional especially from Shwetha Menon. She is an actress who carries the personality through out the film.
From the day Sargam released, Manoj K Jayan has been typecasted as an eccentric. Even when he gets normal characters a trifle of eccentricity comes up. But it has proved beneficial for this movie. Seems G. Nair is impeccable for delivering pages and pages of dialogues while her acting remains more or less the same. Chembil Asokan as Ramappan was a good find. Anil Murali in the role of villain is alright. Aniyappan haven’t been able to do more than what he regularly does. Aparna as Bala’s love interest is ok. Bala flaunts his large biceps in every other scene and has acted very well in this film.
Cinematography by Sadath proves that he is a promising cameraman for Malayalam film to look after. Viewers won’t believe that the breath taking visuals seen on screen are from Palaghat. No wonder he is such a sought after cameraman outside India. More moving shots would have immensely enriched the beauty. P C Monahan’s editing is clever but color correction needed a bit more care, it’s inconsistent.
Story by Viju Ramachandran is entangled with love, sex and betrayal. Scenes are tight and don’t leave space for an undesirable character. The movie races towards the culmination and viewers won’t feel 2 hours have passed. Dialogues are natural and less, though the climax is predictable. Songs are written by Viju Ramachandran himself.
The element which attracts audience to theatre is Shwetha’s oomph factor. Though the film has 2-3 scenes which are suggestive, family audiences need not have to stay away.
The background music which has to bind the entire film is a failure. More hours in sound design would have made the film an experience. Dubbing is fine.
Anil has proved again to be the magician of small films who considers producer’s point of view and knows the limitation of Malayalam films. The producer, distributor and theaters will be very happy with their investment. In less than a week, the film will make profit.

Malayalam Movie Traffic; Review

Movie Name :Traffic Director: Rajesh R.Pillai
Cast: Srinivasan, Kunchacko Boban, Anoop Menon, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Ramya Nambeesan, Sandhya
Producer: Listin Stephen
Music: Mejo Joseph, Samson Kottoor
Script: Bobby-Sanjay

Review By : Thanseer M.A

Rating : 4/5

Rajesh Pillai is the director who debuted in Malayalam film with Kunchacko Boban starrer Hridayathil Sookshikkan which was forgettable. After more than half a decade he is back with a second film, Traffic which has positively blown away the audience.
Where this film aces over recent thrillers like Apoorva Raaagam and Passenger is its core value of thrill which keeps the viewers tapping their feet in anticipation from commencement to end. Rajesh Pillai gets respect over the makers of Cocktail due to its originality.
The casting was impeccable and director was able to unveil performance from actors. The accident shots were taken with aesthetics and atmost believability. Cinematography though not flashy kept up the mood and caught the thrill.  Back ground music was racy and editing sustained the rhythm.
Writers Sanjay – Bobby are the heroes behind the film. After their melodramatic Ente veedu Apponteyum and uninspiring Notebook, here comes a film that has class as well as value. The script is Hollywood material, dialogues are classic, especially those said by Lena. Motivating dialogues delivered by Jose Prakash is going to stay and inspire multitude. The beauty of the film is its humbleness.
Big star casts rarely make into meaningful films but this film worked out fine. Not a single character shown in film lacks importance. Everyone acted well and some of them have enacted the best roles in years. It is curious that Anoop Menon is seen in many good movies like Pakal Nakshatrangal, Thirakkatha, etc. Asif Ali got a meaty role. Ordinary people’s Superstar Sreenivasan looks apt.
Resemblances with Hollywood film Speed and Oscar winner Crash are evident. Song as in Nadodigal has also been discussed by spectators followed by simple errs like using same Phone numbers for different situations. But all this stood up only to a level, and the film has risen above it.
If this film was not titled Traffic, the second best name would have been ‘Thriller’ but was used earlier for another flick.  The ‘feel’ audience receive is what every director wants to achieve. This is what people come to art for. Traffic will remain an inspiration for filmmakers to arrive.  It proves again that a person can’t be written off; as heroes will comeback not only in movies. Through this film Rajesh Pillai made a statement, ‘I am here…’ and it reverberates as ‘never underestimate anyone‘.

Kudumbasree Travels; Review

Movie : Kudumbasree Travels Cast:Jayaram, Jagathi Sreekumar, Janardhanan, Maniyanpilla Raju, Mamukkoya, P. Sreekumar, Mohan Ayeroor, Kottayam Nazeer, Sidharth,  Kalabhavan Haneef, Shijoy, Vettukili Prakash, Niyas backer, Manoj, Bhavana, KPAC Lalitha, Kalpana, Radhika, Kulappilly Leela, Valsala Menon, Anjana.
Director: Kiran
Banner: Mythri Visuals
Music Director: Biji Bal
Lyricst: Vayalar Sharath Chandra Varma
Distributor: Central Pictures
Dialogue: Thomas Thoppilkudi
Director Kiran’s ‘Kudumbasree Travels ‘is a movie which makes you smile from start to end. It’s a rather light hearted movie  with a simplistic storyline.Kudumbasree Travels narrates the incidents in the lives of a group of innocent people living with no modern facilities in Chithirapuram village. One day they set out on a journey to the town to attend the wedding of their dear Aravindan, a chakkyar koothu exponent, on an old bus named “Kudumbasree Travels”. This is the one and only bus service in their village. Aravindan’s uncle Pachu and his friend Nittar were conspiring to prevent this wedding from happening. Pachu’s intention is to get Aravindan married to his daughter instead allowing the impending marriage with a rich girl, Aswathi.

On their way, the marriage party meets Sreedevi, who holds a lot of secrets. Here, the story changes its course and the film unfolds ensuing incidents with a touch of humour.
Jayaram has nothing much to do in the whole film and he shines whenever given a chance.Bhavana too has nothing much to do other than to pose as a bridegroom, most of the time. The rest of the cast have done a decent job.Kiran and Thomas Tthoppilkody have been able to interestingly weave a story around simple incidents which keeps your interest alive in most parts. The technical side is also impressive with Murali Raman and V T Sreejith doing good jobs in camera and editing. A couple of songs by Bijipal are passable while the BG scores are more impressive.
On the whole, ‘Kudumbasree Travels’ is a time-pass fare which offers an interesting watch.

The Metro: Review

Director: Vyasan Edavanakakd
Cast: Sarath Kumar, Nivin Pauly, Bhavana, Bhagath, Beyon, Arun, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Suresh Krishna, Nishanth Sagar, G K Pillai, Jagathy Sreekumar, Shammi Thilakan, Sadiq, Anil Murali
Producer: Dileep
The Metro directed by Bipin Prabhakar deals with three different happenings which finally get converged into the main thread. The main focus is the coldblooded murder of a young politician, then a brawl at a restaurant that turns ugly and finally, a five member group of youngsters who becomes part of the muddle just by chance.CI Jacob Alexander (Sarath Kumar) is all set to capture dreaded don Paruthikkadan Shaji (Suresh Krishna), who killed a young politician Jaimy Padamadan.Meanwhile five youngsters led by Harikrishnan (Nivin Pauly), who has come from the Gulf on a vacation, goes for a trip from Thiruvilwamala to Pala. While having food at a restaurant, they save a techie named Anupama (Bhavana), from a gang who tries to run away with her bag. Later, the boys have a nice time in Pala but on the way back, things go horribly wrong, when some unexpected happenings change their lives forever.
Sarath Kumar appear totally out of place and Bhavana is wasted with not much to do.Nivin Pauly and Bhagath are once again convincing, but Arun and Beyonne doesn’t have the lines to make an impact. Suraj Venjaramoodu has a better role than his recent outings while Sureshkrissna sleepwalks as the goonda leader. The rest of the cast have not much to do.Vyasan Edavanakkad’s script takes some sweet time, especially in the first half, to find its focus.Sree Sreeram’s camerawork is striking at places. Mahesh Narayanan has also applied sharp scissors in the later half, though the former half appears a little drag and animated, all through. Shan Rehman’s music is sloppy, although the background score is alright
On the whole,’The Metro’ fails to hook your attention. It could have been done much better.
